Fruit update from Tom: 5 July 24

Our strawberries have come to an end for the year. Normally we have some late varieties to follow on with but the last two wet winters have interrupted our planting programmes and we are unlikely to have more this year. Hopefully you had a chance to enjoy the great crop in June.

We are now letting people pick cherries, which are as popular as ever. We have a range of varieties all of which are dark red to black when ripe, but once we open the orchards for picking we find that many are picked slightly under ripe. The season should last another 3 weeks but we may be picked out before then.

Our tayberries and blackberries are producing superb fruit at the moment great for jam making and other preserving. However this year we will have no raspberries  as the wet winters have caused the roots to die and we have not been able to replant. Sorry about that!

We have just started our blackcurrant harvest. This is all done mechanically over the next 3 weeks or so, and we are able to offer 3kg trays for £9 and 8kg trays for £18 from the shed. Not always available as the harvester is not always working, so please check on 07885226452 before coming.

We look forward to seeing you.

Tom
