We are sad to announce the death of David Maynard at the age of 96.
David and Mary bought 40 acres of derelict land in Ticehurst in 1953 and over more than 70 years built up the beautiful family fruit farm that continues to this day.
Pick Your Own was unheard of before David started Maynards’ Farm in the early 1960s, and he was proud to share the fruits of his labours with so many happy customers over the years.
A fruitful life in so many ways… raise a glass to a great man.
Sad news. My Dad Russell Rison started farming fruit at Toat, Pulborough in 1953. Then he went on to manage various fruit farms including Brogdale Fruit Trials. I think they must have known each other.
We just wanted to send our condolences to you all after the loss of David. Our dad Ray would have come to the funeral but us not so mobile these days. Thinking of you all . Sam& Sarah
A wonderful man who had a beautiful life and a star of the village. What memories I have of picking my own with my wife, children and grandchildren. Beautiful fruit and so reasonably priced.
V and I send our heart-felt condolences at the sad news of death of David Maynard. We have always enjoyed our fruit picking trips to Maynards’ over 20 years and are looking to do so again this Summer for raspberries/strawberries when available. All thoughts at this time of family mourning for David Maynard by All.
It’s very sad news and I am very grateful for the hard work that he and his family have put in over the years to bring us top quality fruit. We really enjoy picking our own at Maynard’s – it’s a very special place. My heart goes out to you.
Sincere condolences to you all.
